You step out of the elevator into a well-lit corridor.
Roughly fifteen feet across—but there’s nowhere to go. The passage runs straight ahead for about thirty feet before ending at a recessed glass booth set between two reinforced doors.

You step through and into a long corridor. The door seals behind you with a soft magnetic thud. The hall stretches ahead, lined with composite wall panels, recessed lighting, and dark observation glass.
Low guidance lights embedded in the floor mark the designated walking path. The first door on your left is marked Administration.
You enter and the door seals behind you with a soft magnetic thud. The room is smaller than expected. A wall-mounted terminal with a large man in a dark security uniform sitting in a simple chair, his back to you. 
He glances back as the door seals behind you and stands to greet you. Broad shoulders. Heavy build. The kind of presence that fills a room without trying. “Registry contractor?” he asks. You nod.
He pushes away from the terminal and walks over, extending his hand. “Sergeant Halvik. Shift supervisor.”
His grip is firm but easy. “What’ve they got you auditing?” he asks.  
“Ration allocation. Supply discrepancy.”  You answer.
He turns back to the kiosk terminal mounted in the wall and taps the metal casing twice with two knuckles — a small, absent gesture, like a habit he doesn’t notice.
“Most of that runs through Distribution Control,” he says. “Logistics AI keeps the numbers balanced.” Your credentials propagate across the screen.
“I heard there was some kind of clerical error,” he says. “Something in the supply ledger that didn’t line up.” He shrugs. “Usually the system corrects those before anyone bothers to look at them. Guess this one triggered an audit before it could.”
Halvik straightens and gestures toward the terminal. “You should have everything you need. Intake logs, supply cycles, distribution reports.” He pauses at the doorway, glancing back once. 
“Most audits come back clean,” he says. “Out here, the numbers usually behave.”
“If you need anything,” he adds, tapping the metal casing beside the terminal twice with two knuckles, “let the AI know. It’ll route the call to me.” 
He gives a quick half-smile. The overhead light catches the pale scar running down the side of his face. “I’ll leave you to it then.” He disappears though the corridor door, leaving you alone with the terminal.
